Read DTU’s reported 2026 convocation outcomes and understand the 2025–26 placement figures, including highest versus average salary packages.

A milestone for graduating students

DTU’s official website scheduled its 12th convocation for 22 October 2026. A Careers360 report published that evening describes 7,896 degrees across the 2024–25 and 2025–26 batches, including 306 doctorates. These numerical outcomes are press-reported; an official post-event statistical release has not been independently checked for this article. [1, 2]

For school students, a convocation is a useful reminder that higher education offers several routes: undergraduate study, postgraduate specialisation and research. When exploring engineering colleges, look at the learning opportunities and the skills you want to build alongside the headline achievements.

Which year do the placement numbers describe?

Careers360 attributes 1,833 job offers from 348 visiting companies to the 2025–26 placement year. It reports a highest annual package of ₹64 lakh and an average of ₹15.04 lakh. These are historical results quoted in the convocation coverage, not a promise to a future intake or a statement about the ongoing 2026–27 season. [1]

A highest package describes the upper end of a reported set. An average is the sum divided by the number of observations included. Neither measure, by itself, tells a family what an individual applicant can expect. The definition of the underlying group matters as much as the number.

Questions to ask when comparing engineering colleges

Ask for branch-wise outcomes, the number of eligible students, the number participating and the number uniquely placed. A count of offers need not be identical to a count of students. Also ask whether the published salary measure is cost to company, fixed pay or another definition; do not convert it straight into monthly take-home income.

A median, where available, can add perspective because it identifies the middle observation. Ask how higher-study choices, internships and off-campus outcomes are treated. These questions are general suggestions for reading placement reports; this article does not supply missing DTU statistics or infer a placement percentage from the available figures.

A useful takeaway for JEE aspirants

Build a college comparison sheet with space for curriculum, laboratories, project opportunities, fees, travel or hostel needs and verified placement definitions. Leave a field blank when evidence is unavailable. A clearly marked unknown is more useful than an estimate that looks precise.

For Physics preparation, keep a parallel notebook of concepts, units, diagrams and mistakes in numerical work. Use university news as motivation, then return to the skills you can practise today. A thoughtful college choice combines personal interests, academic preparation and evidence that can be checked.

Turn a headline into a useful comparison

Try a worked example with invented figures: five annual packages of 5, 6, 6, 7 and 26 units have an average of 10 units but a median of 6. The highest value is 26. All three descriptions are mathematically correct, yet they answer different questions. These figures are an illustration only and have no connection to DTU salaries.

A comparison table should therefore include the year, population and definition beside every salary figure. Avoid comparing one college’s highest package with another college’s median. Ask whether the same branches and degree levels are represented. Where a report is silent, mark that limitation and seek the original publication before drawing a conclusion. This is a useful exercise in interpreting numbers, whether the subject is college placements, examination results or a classroom dataset.
